What makes the Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1 special?

The Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1 is an elegant gran panetela, expertly rolled to deliver a great draw and an even burn.

P.G.’s Gourmet Series blend features a unique medium-bodied blend of aged Dominican tobaccos, with a Colorado Shade, or reddish-brown, wrapper grown in Ecuador. P.G. chose this leaf back in the 1990s, long before anyone else was using it.

The Gourmet Series tobaccos are aged five years before the cigars are rolled, and then, depending on the shape, aged an additional number of years before arriving at our store. Given its length, the No. 1 is too long for our standard gift box, so we package it in an alternative box that offers extra protection.

Who is the Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1 best suited for?

Medium bodied cigars are approachable to everyone, regardless of experience. They offer more body, flavor and nuance than most mild cigars, and can pair with just about anything. One of the greatest attributes of enjoying cigars is the opportunity to experiment and find the blends that really resonate with you.

Consider these factors before selecting any cigar: What’s the occasion? Who will you be with? What kind of mood are you in? Have you eaten? What will you be drinking with the cigar? Putting some thought into those questions will guide you towards the blends that best complement that moment in time.

What can you tell me about Paul Garmirian “PG” Cigars?

Paul Garmirian wrote the book on cigars, literally. Published in 1990, The Gourmet Guide to Cigars is based on seven years of research, much of which was conducted here at Georgetown Tobacco. Soon after, we launched P.G.’s cigars in our store. Blended with Davidoff’s master blenders, Henke Kelner and Eladio Diaz, P.G.’s cigars are produced at the Davidoff Occidental cigar factory.

With an exceptional commitment to using only aged, quality tobacco and a further commitment to ensuring that his cigars are never on backorder, P.G. is the definition of a boutique cigar that withstands the test of time. You can now read the full story of P.G. in his memoir, The Road to Cigars.

Why does Georgetown Tobacco carry Paul Garmirian “PG” Cigars?

Georgetown Tobacco was proud to launch P.G.’s first line of cigars, the Gourmet Series, from our store back in 1990. Having been a friend and customer since 1965, Paul spent many Saturday afternoons here while researching his book that started it all, The Gourmet Guide to Cigars. Made with impeccable quality standards and an emphasis on aged tobaccos, P.G.’s cigars are among the best to ever come out of the Dominican Republic, if not anywhere.

FAQ: Frequently asked questions about the Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1

+Is the Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1 a good choice for someone newer to premium cigars?

Yes! While we might often recommend people begin their cigar journey with a mild blend, medium-bodied cigars are also a great place to start. There are so many great cigars to try, and we encourage you to explore a variety of blends to discover what resonates with you the most.

+What pairs well with the Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1?

We like to keep it simple. If you like the cigar and you like the beverage, they likely go well together. That said, there is both art and science to pairing beverages and cigars, and our team of tobacconists has pooled their collective knowledge to create this comprehensive pairing guide.

+Is the Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1 worth the price?

This is such a subjective and personal question to answer. What we can say is this: we think so, or we would not carry it. We carefully consider price along with many other factors before deciding what to bring into our humidors. While it may not fit every budget, we believe the character and construction of this blend will be appreciated by many of our customers.

+How long does it take to enjoy a Paul Garmirian “PG” Gourmet Series- No. 1?

Size and shape play key roles in how long you will enjoy your cigar. While factors such as pace, tobacco density, and environmental conditions can affect burn time, certain cigar shapes generally require more time than others. See our guide on how long cigars last based on common cigar shapes, so you can choose the right cigar for the amount of time you have to enjoy it.

+How should I store this cigar?

Cigars are happiest in conditions that resemble the tropical regions where they were made: warm, humid, and consistent. For long-term storage, we recommend a quality cedar-lined humidor maintained at approximately 69 to 72 percent relative humidity and around 68 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep cigars away from direct sunlight and sudden temperature changes. With proper care, a well-maintained cigar will only improve with age.

Paul Garmirian Gourmet Series

P.G. cigars have earned their international reputation by word of mouth for their balanced medium strength, rich, spicy and deliciously smooth flavors and aromas. Made in the Davidoff factory and leveraging their strict quality control standards, the Gourmet Series is blended with complex aged fillers and binders, and a colorado shade Connecticut wrapper (grown in Ecuador); the favorite of many connoisseurs. The wrapper used on the Gourmet Series is a scarce and richly flavored (medium to dark) reddish brown. P.G. cigars have come to represent the finest in quality, consistency and integrity. Certain shapes we carry come from Paul's private reserve, going back to 2001. Check individual sizes for vintage details where available.
