Life is full of firsts… All of us can remember our first bike, or that fist time solo behind the wheel of our parents’ car with that freshly minted license… and we’d be willing to bet that most of you remember your first cigar.
Fast forward to today, with the “gifts” of the internet and social media. We have the ability see reviews, ratings, and “top 10” lists of literally any products in any niche. With the click of a button, they can be on your doorstep in a matter of days.
And while you will find most of this year’s top-rated cigars on our shelves, what about all those other cigars that fill our humidors?
Here at Georgetown Tobacco, we have enjoyed 59 years serving residents of the nation’s capital and patrons from all over the world. Needless to say, we have seen many brands come and go over those years. We also work hard to curate the best of what’s new in the industry and is of interest to our customers.
That said, there are many cigar brands that have proven to stand the test of time and are now considered classics. To highlight a few, the Macanudo Hyde Park, Punch Elite, Arturo Fuente 8-5-8, Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully and the La Gloria Cubana Serie R come to mind.
In a world where literally over a thousand new cigar brands have been introduced in the just the last 10 years, these legends have maintained their appeal for decades. What’s their secret? It may be consistency, as every time you light one of these cigars it’s exactly as you remember. It could also be affordability, as the prices of these cigars are generally all under $10. And of course, there is marketing, as these all hail from big brands with large advertising budgets. But no ad can generate the customer loyalty these cigars have earned.
So while I cannot revisit my parents’ ’78 Trans Am, I can revisit the Fuente 8-5-8. Here’s to a glory day you can experience…. again!
