A Humble Beginning with a Big Dream

The Padrón story began in 1964, when José Orlando Padrón, a Cuban immigrant living in Miami, decided to chase a dream rooted in his homeland’s cigar-making heritage. Working as a gardener by day, Sr. Padrón used a hammer given to him by a friend to work small carpentry jobs by night.  With just $600 he earned with that “little hammer,” Padrón Cigars was born. That same hammer — pictured on every box and still displayed at Padrón headquarters today — became a symbol of persistence and craftsmanship.

Within a few years, Sr. Padrón was producing cigars full-time and eventually moved operations to Nicaragua. There, the rich volcanic soil gave Padrón access to some of the finest tobacco in the world — bold, earthy, and full of flavor. Even through political unrest and factory fires, the Padrón family stayed true to their standards: no shortcuts, no compromises, ever.

Today, the company remains firmly in family hands, led by José’s son, Jorge Padrón. What sets them apart is how much they continue to do themselves — from growing and curing their own tobacco to hand-rolling every cigar in-house. Every Padrón cigar is made entirely from Nicaraguan tobacco, aged for years until it reaches the perfect balance of flavor and smoothness.
