About This Pipe:
The Dunhill Pipe- Shell Briar 5102- Group 5 is a feather-light Bent with a deep bowl and enhanced by its Vulcanite military mount. As the story goes, the military mount was made popular during the first World War, and of particular use in trenches. Given the cold, damp conditions, having a vulcanite-to-vulcanite connection made smoking and disassembling the pipe to clean much easier than a standard briar-tenon connection.
Another story is that back in the cavalry days, being able to quickly and easily remove the stem and stash in one’s pocket before the charge was a valued feature.
Whichever story you believe, it’s a pretty cool looking pipe!
